As you are reading this, you might be snuggling in your bed or lying lazily on your sofa, trying to look for things to do while in quarantine. Maybe, you already have crossed out every item in your to-do list thus far.
We are going through tough and trying times. However, it doesn’t mean that we have our spirits let down by the negativity surrounding us. We should always be optimistic and look at the sunny side of things. Yes, there is a current pandemic that requires us to be indoors to protect ourselves. At the same time, we can use this time to better our health and wellness. Spending more time at home also means that you can be with your family during this period.
Doing indoor activities is a great way to take our minds from stress and relax. You might be stuck at home, but it doesn’t mean that you cannot do anything productive or fulfilling. If you are still searching for the best way to spend your time indoors, here are some things to do while in quarantine that you may be interested in.
Give your home a mini makeover.
If you are a working professional, you might be spending more time in the office rather than your home. Now that you are staying indoors, you have more time to take a good look at your humble abode.
You can take this time to unleash your inner interior designer and give your home a makeover it deserves. Swap out old curtains, bedsheets, and pillowcases with new ones; you can even try to sew new ones yourself. Reassemble your furniture and look at what looks suitable for your space. Also, this might be a good time to do maintenance in your house that you did not have time for in the past, like fixing broken cabinets or varnishing wooden furniture. Most importantly, take this time to disinfect high touch areas in your home.
Find out if you have a green thumb or not and try out gardening—plant flowers in small spaces of soil in your front or backyard. You may also grow plants like tomatoes; now you don’t have to go out and buy them. If you do not have spaces of soil in your home, some plants already come in pots that you can buy.
Practice a forgotten skill.
Take this time to rekindle your love for an old hobby of yours. Whether it be painting, writing, or playing an instrument, practice the skill that might have become rusty from a long time of not doing them. Dust off the guitar at the back of your cabinet and learn a new song to add to your repertoire. Open that bottle of paint and draw a self-portrait. You might not have the time to do them in the past, but now you can allot your time in doing them again.
Learn to do something new.
There are a lot of new things for you to do while in quarantine. Aside from doing hobbies that you already know, you might want to learn a new skill. There are a lot of tutorials online that you can follow. Create some arts and crafts that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Learn a new instrument or practice a new dance cover. You might also want to create your own blog to express the words you have in your mind. If you wish, you may also try to learn a new language, French, Spanish, Japanese, whatever you please to do. Practice something new to show off when you meet your friends again.
Cook up a storm.
If you are a foodie, you might be apprehensive about going out to eat or even order delivery. Take this time to try out the new food recipe you have been saving. Not because you are staying at home, you should deprive yourself of something delicious. Also, it’s an opportunity to be keener about the nutritional value of the food you’re eating. It is a chance to eat healthier; if you haven’t gone on a diet yet, start now.
Do not spend your time lying around your bed. Just because you’re indoor, it doesn’t mean that you can’t squeeze physical activities in your day. If you have equipment such as a treadmill or stationary bike at home, these are easy ways to break a sweat. There are also a lot of exercise tutorials online if you are looking to focus on working specific parts of your body. If you haven’t had a workout regimen yet, this might be the right time to start.
Play games with your family.
Not all things to do while in quarantine are done alone. Staying at home gives you more time to spend with your family. What better way to bond with your family than playing games? Learn the instructions of a board game or a card game then share it with your family. Having a game night at least once a week is a great way to bring the family together.
Contact a long-distance friend.
Spending time with the same people might get tiring after a while. Because you are prohibited from going outside, it will be hard for you to meet friends that are not within your area. However, this should not stop you from talking to them. Especially now, there are several ways you contact people from far away; you can send them a message through text or online, call them, or even video chat. Talking to a friend is an excellent way to take your mind off things.
Another thing to do while in quarantine is meditation. A reason why you do these indoor activities is to distract yourself. Meditating can help you get your mind off the negativity that is surrounding you. You may find a quiet place within your home and practice yoga. It is also a good time to reflect on the plans you have in the future.
