Skincare was a popular thing when it started hitting social media. Different celebrities and influencers started sharing their skincare routine. One of the most famous countries that stands out when it comes to skincare is none-other than Korea. Representing their “glass-like” skin that has been a standard to some, this explains that a person has a good set of skincare products and routines.

2011 is when Korea started its popularity in skincare products. Because of their innovation and usage of natural ingredients, Korean skincare products became a hit to the public. This includes the popularity of K-pop artists, which is a testament to having good skin and figures, thus encouraging more people from different countries to try out their products.

What is Honey skin?

Korea is a known country as one of the best manufacturers of skincare products that knows how to define what level of beauty they want to achieve.

Many people are already aware of the “glass-like” skin, but aside from that, they also came up with a new trend called the “honey skin”. It is described as the look of natural and healthy skin that can be achieved by following a skincare routine.

Research said that honey skin explains that healthy skin is not about being flawless or having invisible pores, but it means that the skin is balanced in terms of its tone and condition.

How to know if you have honey skin?

  1. You can notice any highlighter-like tone on the points of your face where you usually put your highlighter. It is similar to oily shine but it is not oily.
  2. When the sunlight touches your face, it has a nice glow visible on the cheeks, forehead, and bridge of the nose.
  3. Pores should be fairly even. Meaning it is still visible but not too open.
  4. Clear from sebum and blackheads

There are further skin classifications that are commonly known in Korea. And these terms were described by Charlotte Cho. Including glass skin, honey skin, cloudless skin, yoga skin, and the dewy dumpling look.

  • Dewy skin
For a long time, people had lost the idea that oily skin is bad skin. And because of that, people used countless oily skin prevention tools to avoid the issue. Like using oil sheets, mattifiers, and setting powders. Yet dewy skin is different from being oily. It has been described to be a good example of hydrated and fresh skin. It has an illusion of having a highlighter at the upper area of the cheekbones and the T-zone, which looks like certain areas are oily. But it is only a product of freshly moisturized skin. It has a smooth texture and a glowing appearance. Dewy skin can be achieved by proper hydration, exfoliation, proper nourishment of skin vitamins, and the use of sunscreen.
  • Honey skin
Honey skin is similar to a drop of honey. It has poreless skin and has a smooth texture. Thus, it doesn’t mean that the skin is poreless, making the pores invisible. Honey skin focuses more on having plump and supple skin. It is similar to dewy skin, having the same gloss on the face. Yet, the only thing that honey skin differs from dewy skin is how “greasy” it looks. Honey skin has a less greasy look than dewy skin. But just like dewy skin, achieving a honey skin look is also a result of proper hydration, exfoliation, moisturizers, and skin nourishment.

How to achieve honey skin?

  1. Cleansing
Double cleansing the face is the first step to honey skin. Make sure that the canvas is clean and ready for the rest of the routine.
  2. Exfoliate
This step is not often required, but it may help the skin absorb more of the products because it can remove dead skin that may act as a wall between the surface and other skincare products to be applied.
  3. Toner
Toner is an important element to remove excess dirt, oils that cleansers alone cannot remove. It also contributes to minimizing pores and making the skin look smoother.
  4. Hydrating Essence
This is to hydrate the skin. For better results, it is good to use products that contain hyaluronic acid, it can hydrate the skin deeply and also keep the moisture of the skin.
  5. Moisturizer
There are tons of moisturizers out in the market, they can either be in the forms of serums or cream. To know if a moisturizer is good, some advice is to make sure that it melts into the skin when applied. But still, the type of moisturizer that you use will also depend on your skin type.

Whether it’s honey skin, glass skin, or dewy skin, it is always important to take good care of the outermost layer of your body. It is important to keep it healthy, hydrated and moisturized. To achieve a better result, having daily exercise, a healthy diet, and drinking the right amount of water every day can be helpful, especially when you’re looking forward to a more natural look than using makeup every time you leave home.

Also, invest in the products that you use. Some budget-friendly products are still as effective or better than the expensive ones. More than that, also read labels to know if the products suit your skin type or may cause an allergic reaction to your skin.
